short moral stories

The Amitabh Bachan's Story

It was the talk of a day, when my career was at its peak and I was traveling in an airplane for a movie project, the legend Amitabh Bachan said. The passenger next to me was an old man in a simple shirt and pants. He seemed to be middle-class but well-educated.

The other passengers that were present there in the flight may have recognized who I am, but this gentleman seems to be uninterested in my existence. He reads the newspaper, looks out the window, and sipped the tea silently.

I tried to start a conversation by looking at him with a friendly smile. The man smiled back politely and said " Hello" to me. Then finally a conversation has started between us and I brought up the topic of movies and asked him: "Do you watch movies?".

The man replied, "Oh, very rarely." I saw one many years ago he said. At this, I mentioned that I work in the film industry. The man replied very calmly... "Oh, that's great and asked me back, What do you do?

To which I replied, "I am an actor. "The man nodded: "Oh, great, that's amazing!" and "that's it... When the flight in which we were traveling was landed, I stretched out my hand and said, "It's great to travel with you. By the way, my name is Amitabh Bachan!

The man shook my hand and smiled: "Thank you... Nice to meet you... I am J.R.D Tata! That day I learned that no matter how rich and popular you are, someone will always be more popular and richer than you.

Conclusion-

*Be humble, it costs nothing. "

Story to earn $6 Billion through Twitter

A tweet was tweeted by Travis Kalanick in January 2010. A man and a user of Twitter named 'Ryan Graves' replied to that tweet back after 3 minutes. In January 2010, Travis and his friend Garrett had just built an app and were doing a test run of it with three cars in New York. They realized and decided it was the time to start an app company and start searching for the post of a general manager to run the company.

Travis contacted Craigslist and Twitter to find suitable candidates for this post and the role of Ryan came into existence. Ryan replied that he was searching to do something new and different. He had some experience at GE, and he worked for Foursquare for free for some time.
He was excited and ready to accept the new opportunities and has found a job through his reply on Twitter. Travis replied on his tweet thread between him and Ryan and then they met after which Ryan joined Travis and Garrett on 1st march, as their very first and new hire.

When their new company was set up and started, the three invited all their friends to showcase their products and to get a client. Only three months later, on May 31st, they officially released the product in San Francisco.

That was five years ago.

The team that tweeted this week turned their Uber business into a business worth more than $60 billion (this week they just announced a new round of $2 billion financings.

At present, Travis and Ryan are worth over $6 billion and Ryan's(now Uber's head of global operations) replied on Travis's tweet that made him the head of the global operation. That tweet kicked off his journey to become a billionaire today.

Conclusion-

How do you use Facebook, Twitter, Linked In, and Youtube? Like a Broadcasting tool? Or, like Travis and Ryan, find the resources, as a method to make new connections, and opportunities you need. Depending on how you use it, social media can make you feel separate from everyone or a step forward towards anyone.

Benjamin Franklin quote on this--

"It can overwhelm you, or empower you.
It can be a time waster, or a time saver. "Never confuse motion with action."

~ Benjamin Franklin

What do you need today or can you help? This may be just a tweet away. Of course, there's no promise that a connection or tweet will make you earn a billion dollars or affecting a billion lives. But there's no promise, that it won't either also.
