How to improve wifi signal strength and wifi speed

Hey guys, are you also still want to improve your wifi speed and signal strength after installing necessary devices and done with everything necessary to keep your network speed at its best. Normally, to achieve this goal, we are advised to install necessary hardware devices and something like that but, after installing them too we don't get the speed that we are looking for. So here, today in this blog post, I'll tell you some new tips and advice that will help you to get out from this weak wifi signal strength issue permanently.

1) Keep your devices up to date

A, B, G, and N are four IEEE 802.11 standards for wireless networks currently. The A and G standards can transfer information up to 54 Mbps and standard B can transmit data up to 11 Mbps of speed.
The N standard is the latest and fastest standard among all the standards because it can transfer and receive data at a speed of up to 600 Mbps. To get the highest network speed of your choice you need to install an N-compatible router and a network card in your computer that supports this format. Outdated boards can be replaced easily with a very affordable value. However, routers need to be replaced with newer models.

2) Choose a suitable location for your router

Router location matters a lot if speed is the major concern for you. You should have installed your router at a place that is near to the devices that have their connection. Hence you must have analyzed the best place at your home or workplace which works with waves such as radio or your mobile phone.
The best option is to install the router at a high place as the signal expands down and to the sides so that it gets free from surrounding objects or gadgets.
Since the signal spreads in all directions so it is good to keep the router at the center of the house. You should also keep your router away from the microwave and cordless phones that can interfere with your signal.

3) Protect your network from signal thieves

Though you have a password registered with your wifi antenna for long-range coverage, it may have been hacked and some opportunistic users can share your signal, thus slowing down your signal speed. WPA is a more advanced security standard that one should opt for to protect your network from such thieves. You must also frequently change the password so that one cannot figure it out easily and set a password that does not contain commonly used letters and symbols.
Your password must contain a combination of symbols, letters, and special characters.
There is yet, another more radical measure to limit who has access to your router and this can be done by the MAC address of the network card. Access to the equipment is completely blocked, except MAC address, through this method.

4) Change the connection channel

You may found a wifi connection installed in every house or building which is next to yours, or you can found it in your building too, so it's very common to have a wireless connection installed nowadays and hence, these connections may also be on the same channel as of yours. Sharing common channels for multiple networks can cause the network to get busy with multiple traffics on it. So, it is advisable to choose a channel that is freer.

Wifi Analyzer is the most commonly used software to verify the best channel for you. You can use Wifi Stumbler for the same purpose too. Both the software uses graphical analysis to see which channel each router is using and recommends the best channel to you. To change the channel, you can contact your service provider.

5) Install repeater to increase signal range

If you stay in a house that has several floors and thick walls, the reach of your wifi may be greatly impaired. Here, a signal repeater can solve your problem. There are wifi repeaters that connect to the router through an Ethernet cable and resend the signal to more remote devices. These repeaters must always be connected by cable to the router, which can cause inconvenience. But there is another option for this problem too: You can use the PLC devices, connected to the cabling of the power grid.

6) Watch out for apps that hijack your band

If your network is busy with online gaming, live video streaming, and social media apps then it can cause your wifi signal to lose its speed. If all the members in your house sharing the same network, some devices may be consuming the most of the band and keeping the network busy, hence limiting the use of the network in other computers.

QoS is a tool and a solution to solve this problem. With QoS, it is possible to set priority for the data transfer by protocols and if you think that a program is consuming more data than others, it is also possible to completely block that program using QoS.

7) Restart your router frequently

It is often strongly recommended to restart your browser manually because of the extra warming up of the router that can affect your wifi speed. One should keep the router off at the time when nobody is using the network, usually at the time when you sleep. This may enhance your wifi speed and improve signal transmission as soon as you turn it back on, simultaneously ensuring a longer life for your equipment.

So, friends without wasting your time in talking to your service provider or with something else to improve your wifi signal strength, try these techniques as they may prove worthy for you and could give you the best signal strength you ever want.
